Magnetic Susceptibility - Frequently Asked Questions
Nominal axial depth range of individual susceptibility probes is approximately the same as their diameters (500 mm, 250 mm, 125 mm for Multikappa). At that depths 90 % level of signal is achieved. Deeper situated objects (below those depth ranges) can be identified provided their susceptibility is significantly higher than susceptibility of upper layer of soil (e.g. ferromagnetic objects). All kappameters are calibrated on flat surface of large susceptibility standard (simulating uniform half space). Shape differences (e.g for drill core samples) can be partially compensated by geometrical factor. Measurement of small and irregular samples can bring only very informative and relative results. |
